During class this past Wednesday, we learned about Argumentation and it's different forms. There are six different forms of argumentation and they are religion, emotion/pathos, ethics/ethos, observation/cause and effect, history (norms, customs, and traditions), and legal/based on precedent. We explored each different form of argumentation through a group assignment. This was the first time we got to work in our groups that were made earlier in the semester. The assignment was to find one argument of each form to justify slavery. In the beginning I thought this assignment would be impossible as I believe slavery is wrong. However because of the deep history behind slavery it was quite simple to find information. The interesting thing was to read through all the justifications we (as a group) found throughout the internet. Probably the funniest justification I came by was on a British Broadcasting Corporation site and it said "Some people are just better off as slaves." I found this funny and true in certain cases maybe. It's the harsh realty, that though morally many believe slavery is wrong and in some cases it could be the better life for some people. It was an interesting assignment nonetheless, and was great to work together with my group.
