Do these stats surprise you?

Two years ago the BBC released an article which I found shocking. It was an article about the race relations in America and they posed us with six statistics that many may find to be a shocker. The article was written just a day after a white gunman shot dead nine people in an African American church. The first statistic is that there are just 2 black billionaires in America in comparison to roughly 500 white billionaires. That statistic doesn't bother me that much but does shed light on the economic differences in America between whites and blacks. The second statistic I find extremely shocking. At the time of the article 9.8% of blacks over 25 have a bachelors degree in comparison to 14.4% of whites. This is shocking to me because millions of people are going to college every semester. Yes not everyone graduates how ever many of the colleges I'm familiar with have decent graduation rates. The third statistic is the most shocking and disturbing of all. According to a survey conducted by the Public religion research institute in 2013, 75% of white Americans claimed that they had only white American friends. I've always been big on diversity and meeting new people and I understand that it is not the same with everyone. However to see that 75% percent of white Americans which is a large majority of our population is claiming to only befriend other white Americans is shocking. I also find it disturbing that they can live a life everyday and not manage to start or hold a friendship with a black or colored American. The other two statistics are 10.9% unemployment for blacks as compared to 5.8% for whites and that 37% of prison inmates are black compared to 32% whom are white. I don't have much to say about these last two statistics. However, the unemployment statistics tie back with the first statistic in terms of shedding light on the economic differences they continue to face today.
