The Jim Crow laws created a racial caste between 1877 and the mid 1960's. The racial oppression of blacks came about as whites were scared of the production of a mongrel race. These anti-black laws ranged to all aspects of life whether the laws extended to toilets, hospitals, railroads, marriage, restaurants, baseball, parks, housing, etc. The housing laws led to the building of many sundown towns. Sundown towns were segregated white only neighborhoods that blacks had to leave before sundown. If they didn't leave before sundown, they could be killed or jailed, and for sure lynched. The Jim Crow laws ended during the civil rights movement because of the famous case, Brown v. Board of Education. Leading to the condemnation of segregation.
