The Modern Day George Wallace

NPR published an interesting article looking at the most recent presidential campaign. They called Donald Trump the modern day George Wallace. If this was an article I read before taking this course I wouldn't even begin to understand it. However, after studying George Wallace and looking back onto the campaign of Donald Trump it comes to me. I completely see the similarities between the two and find this comparison bright in my head. George Wallace was against integration and work tirelessly to keep segregation alive as he is infamous for his quote "Segregation Now. Segregation Tomorrow. And Segregation Forever." It is very similar in my opinion to the way Trump looks at immigrants today, despite being the son of an immigrant. Also looking at the presidential rallies today and those of George Wallace it is immensely close in comparison to how rowdy they get and how they both exploited their followers. Peggy Wallace, daughter of George Wallace, put it like this "Trump and my father say out loud what people are thinking but don't have the courage to say,". Though this may be true I believe to an extent the reason people weren't saying it is because they don't completely believe it to be true. Though many of the images put into their heads by Trump may look good. In reality they don't want all the things to be done the way Trump is doing it. However they voted him in and we will have to sit back and see where his presidency goes as many people retract their support of him.
